Fingerprints DAO to launch unique NFT collection with Mercedes-Benz

The collection features 1000 dazzling Ethereum NFTs generated through a custom-built neural network.

Last year, German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz filed five trademark applications relating to the metaverse and NFTs. Now, the Web3 arm of the luxury automobile giant has partnered up with Fingerprints DAO, a digital art platform and community, to launch a brand new collection of NFTs.

The collection, called ‘Maschine’, is a generative collection that explores themes of motion, velocity and perception. It was created with Berlin-based artist Harm van den Dorpel, the creator of Mutant Garden Seeder.

‘Maschine’ will feature 1000 NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. The collection will be available exclusively through Fingerprints DAO’s website via a rebate Dutch auction on Wednesday, June 7, starting at 18:00 CET.

Unlike other luxury car NFTs, Mecedes-Benz NFTs do not depict classic models – they depict stunning radial patterns of complex illusions that occur when certain objects spin and accelerate.

“This is inspired by the so-called wagon-wheel effect,” the website states, “by which spoked wheels appear to rotate in a way that seemingly contrasts with their true speed and direction.”

In creating the artwork, Harm created and built a neural network to identify and select generated outputs in line with his own artistic preferences.

Max Orgeldinger, co-founder of Mercedes-Benz creative studio, 0xNXT, said: “With Mercedes-Benz NXT, our goal is to create something that will stand the test of time. In a space that is so young and dynamic, we were looking for partners that have been active for a long time and share our long-term outlook.”

He added: “Fingerprints DAO has long collected some of the most significant blockchain art like Autoglyphs and worked with a variety of celebrated artists.”

Maschine is the first release of three collections. The second Mercedes collection will be reserved for a select group of Mercedes-Benz top customers, and the third will feature digital collectibles created by the Mercedes-Benz design team around Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener. The artworks will reportedly explore the past, present and future of Mercedes-Benz.
