Sports Illustrated embraces NFT ticketing with Polygon-powered ‘Super Tickets’

SI Tickets boasts more than 50 million tickets for 250,000 events, so the move is a huge win for consumer adoption.

SI Tickets, Sports Illustrated’s popular ticketing platform, has announced the launch of “Box Office by SI Tickets,” a self-service event management and ticketing platform that runs on Polygon, a layer-2 Ethereum scaling solution.

Built in partnership with ConsenSys – the company behind MetaMask, Codefi and more – Box Office offers both NFT-based tickets and traditional tickets for some of the biggest events in sport and entertainment.

According to the press release, the platform aims to give “owners, organizers and hosts the ability to create, manage and promote” fully scalable ticketed events, performances or functions.

It welcomes both free and paid events, and it’s particularly welcoming to smaller events. For partners, Box Office claims that its prices are 50 percent lower than its competition, and it offers hosts and/or performers the chance to earn a share of resale revenues.

Box Office’s NFT tickets will be found inside the SI Tickets mobile app.

What are Super Tickets?

The Super Ticket™ is a feature of Box Office created with ConsenSys. It’s a ticket solution that empowers event hosts to stay connected to their attendees and access highlights, collectibles, exclusive offers and loyalty benefits before, during, and after events.

SI Tickets CEO, David Lane, said that the goal of Box Office is to “enter and disrupt” the primary ticket market.

He added: “Blockchain is the future of ticketing, and now owners, promoters, hosts and attendees have access to an advanced ticketing experience that transforms the antiquated barcode into engaging and collectible content.”

An industry giant, SI Tickets already boasts more than 50 million tickets for over 250,000 unique events. NFT tickets issued by Box Office are a huge step forward forward for consumer adoption of Web3.

Johnna Powell, Global Co-head at ConsenSys NFT said that it’s “thrilling to see disruptive web3 technology gaining traction through new use cases like NFT ticketing”, adding that the platform will create a fan experience with unprecedented levels of engagement.
